Kingshill School Fundraiser: “The Dinner Party”

The Kingshill School is holding its 2^nd annual fundraiser, “The Dinner Party” on Saturday, January 28, 2012.  We ask for your continued support as a friend and supporter of alternative education, and ask that you plan to attend this fund raising event.  A donation of $500.00 will entitle you to two admissions for an elegant dinner, a fantastic “folk art” handmade ceramic place setting depicting a famous person (pictured left and below),  and a listing as a patron in the event advertisements.

“The Dinner Party” will be held in the Mahogany Room of the Renaissance St Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa.  This year’s event will highlight the artwork of the students.  Add a mix of “famous” guests ( thank you STX volunteer participants)!, specially prepared food, and you will enjoy a  fabulous & fun evening.

The Kingshill School, located mid-island on St. Croix, provides a nurturing environment for students with learning disabilities, empowering them to overcome their obstacles to learning by fostering self esteem, self discipline and social responsibility.  Hundreds of our children have been helped by this program and  steered toward becoming responsible adults.  The school helps to fill a gap in services for these children.

Under a grant from The Virgin Islands Council of the Arts, students in the art class have created  a four piece ceramic place setting from clay under the direction of Sara Hayes, local potter and clay instructor.  After researching a famous person,  the students then used drawing and painting techniques, taught by Kingshill School’s art teacher Marla Carr, to put each person’s image on the dinner plate.  There were 24 sets created, depicting noted personalities such as President and Mrs. Obama, Oprah, Cleopatra, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Governor deJongh and Tim Duncan.

This is a triple header: amazing artwork, a fabulous evening out, and a chance to support an organization that is truly there for the children.
